94% fertilizer ‘fully distributed’ across 16 LGs – Report

No fewer than ninety-four percent of the assorted fertilizer received by the Kwara State Government has been ‘fully distributed’ across the sixteen local government areas (LGAs) of the state, a report said.

A baseline survey conducted by a team of agricultural professionals from the National Cereals Research Institute, Research Outstation, Bacita, Kwara State who monitored the exercise as part of their community services, said that forty-four percent of the fertilizer received was being distributed in eleven local governments. The areas included: Asa, Baruten, Kaiama, Moro, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Moro, Offa, Oke-ero, Isin and Oyun.

The report also indicated that some LGs, after collecting their consignments, have distributed them to deserving farmers in Edu, Ilorin West, Patigi, Ekiti, and Ilorin East.

The distribution of the assorted fertilizer, received by the state government from the Central Bank of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, was being coordinated by the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the Kwara State Governor, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.

Commenting on the report, Olohungbebe described the ‘community-led distribution approach’ as effective, adding that, the exercise would be completed in few days.
