The recent accolade bestowed upon the Kwara State Hospital Management Board (KWHMB) as the best-performing government agency by the National Telescope Newspaper comes as no surprise to many observers. The profound impact of the board’s initiatives continues to reverberate, with tangible results evident for all to see.
It would indeed have been astonishing if the outcome were anything but this recognition. One key lesson to glean from this achievement is that dedication and hard work inevitably yield recognition, regardless of external pressures. The national acknowledgment of KWHMB as the top-performing agency underscores the ease with which quality distinguishes itself in a crowded field.
As a healthcare administrator committed to excellence, I have closely followed the endeavors spearheaded by Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, the executive secretary of the agency, and his team. Their efforts to revitalize Kwara State’s healthcare system reflect ingenuity, innovation, and professionalism of the highest order.
Being visionary is one thing, but having a leader who instills trust in your capabilities is another. Dr. Abdulraheem Malik has been able to unleash his potential under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who not only delegates responsibility but also fosters an environment conducive to positive transformation.
Under his watch, the state’s healthcare system has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to numerous sustainable projects implemented across various localities. These initiatives include the establishment of state-of-the-art facilities, provision of advanced equipment, and upgrading of infrastructure. Additionally, interventions focused on patient-staff relations, such as staff reorientation and monthly patient reviews, have significantly improved service delivery.
Noteworthy achievements, such as securing funding for an oncology center and subsidizing mammograms for early cancer detection, underscore the agency’s commitment to innovative healthcare delivery. Unlike other regions that concentrate development efforts in urban centers, KWHMB has extended its reach to rural communities, ensuring the localization of global best practices in healthcare services.
Of particular significance is Kwara’s pioneering launch of a state-manufactured anti-malaria tablet suspension known as Kwamal—a testament to the agency’s dedication and ingenuity. Given these remarkable accomplishments, the recognition bestowed upon KWHMB is undoubtedly well-deserved, and I am optimistic that the healthcare investments made by the Kwara State Government will continue to propel progress in the sector.
