The National Association of Nigerian Students express dissatisfaction over the strike action embarked on by Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union in Kwara State which started on 14th June, 2021.

The leadership of NANS stated that Colleges of Education in Kwara State started expressing a sobersided narrative after the implementation of “Education Reform” across colleges in the state by previous administration due to the fact that the process was characterized by series of irregularities which include: poor funding of the reform program, lack of monitoring and supervision, amongst others.

Efforts have been made in the past by Colleges’ Managements to reposition the schools in the state which, unfortunately resulted in wanton failure due to the nonchalant attitude of the past Administration, leading to several industrial actions by the aggrieved teaching and non-teaching staff of state-owned colleges in Kwara State.
It is worthy to note that the present Administration led by Mall. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had met with Head of Colleges of Education in 2019 and promised proper funding of the state institutions and construction of standard infrastructural facilities in the schools.

Comrade Adebayo Kayode Joshua NANS National Project Secretary while addressing the press in Ilorin condemned the government for not prioritizing the improvement of Colleges of Education in the state based on treatments melted on lecturers and insouciance attitude towards changing the ugly narrative of the colleges.
“I see no reason why Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would not give the Colleges of Education in the state proportional attention and fund channeled into the primary and secondary education in the state, knowing fully well the college of education is a training ground for would-be teachers. Nigerian students schooling in the state-owned colleges of education deserve the best, he added”.

He said the Governor needs to meet with aggrieved Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union as a matter of urgency considering the fragility of security situation in the state and well-being of concerned lecturers.
