The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing potable water supply for the people of the state.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade made the reiteration during his inspection visit to the Asa-Dam Water Works in Ilorin, where he undertook on-the-spot assessment of some of the replaced machine devices to boost water supply in the Ilorin metropolis.
The Commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at the inspection site, stressed the commitment of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration to continue to fulfil his electioneering campaign promises to the people of the state.
Hon. Lade also took turns to inspect the repairs of the 6″ AC pipe at Mandate/Western Reservoir; Ajegunle/Adabiya; ALGRIS Filling Station along airport road; replacement of 8″ Sluice Valve at Ita Ajia; repairs of Distribution line at Ode Balogun and repairs of 6″ pipe at Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School, Gaa Akanbi.
Other areas inspected were the repairs of 8″ lines at Oloje points 1 and 2; the replacement of 12″ Blank Saddle at Offa Garage and the repairs and realignment of 10″ AC Pipe at Akerebiata Abattoir, all in Ilorin respectfully.
The Commissioner, while addressing the market men and women at Mandate Market, on the efforts of the state government at providing them with potable water supply,
solicited their cooperation and support by paying revenue for the services rendered.
Lade disclosed that the state government had invested huge amount of resources in the water sector, stressing that government alone could not do it without support in terms of revenue generation on the part of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, the representative of the State Water Corporation, Engr. Sunday Oyedele, who conducted the Commissioner and his entourage round the Asa Dam Water Works, briefed them on their efforts to replace the devices to ensure continuous pumping of water to the metropolis.
Conducting the Commissioner round the metropolis where pipes were replaced, Engr. Saka Abdullah also from the State Water Corporation, who is in-charge of handling the work at the designated areas briefed him on the challenges being faced during the exercise.
At the Mandate Market, the Chairman of Grinding Machine Association, Alh. Musa Olaniwun; and his counterpart at the Abattoir; tomato and pepper sellers, Alh. Mohammed Namari expressed their willingness to pay revenue to support the state government in providing them with potable water in the area.
Also speaking, Alh. Muktar Afonja, the Facility Manager and Consultant in the market, informed the Commissioner that the market people have been sensitized on the need to pay revenue for water supply by the state government.
In the Commissioner’s entourage were the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Omolola Asonibare; Director of Water Engineering Services, Engr. Wopa Yusuf; Engr. Saka Abdullah; Engr. Tajudeen Adeyemo and Engr. Hajarat Aremu, among others.
