Kwara State Government has warned the contractors handling various ongoing water projects across the state against the use of sub-standard materials and necessary delay of the projects.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Honourable Usman Yunusa Lade gave this warning today at the conference room of the Ministry during his meeting with contractors and consultants overseeing various projects in the State.
Hon. Lade said the Ministry will be constituting a committee that will access the standard and quality of work being carried out at various ongoing projects in the state, adding that any contractor found wanting either because of unnecessary delay or shabby job will be blacklisted and have their names published.
He further stressed that this time won’t be a business as usual, noting that the contractors must be ready to deliver quality jobs within the stipulated time frame by the contract agreement.
“Any contractor that is discovered not to deliver a good work or where the job done does not commensurate with or below the amount received will not receive additional pay and we are going to blacklist them and publish their names accordingly,” Commissioner said.
The Commissioner advised the consultants to ensure that they deliver quality jobs and to also make sure they also give back to their communities as part of their quota in contributing to the progress and development of the state.
He explained that the present administration of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, since coming on board has been delivering on his electoral promises and want to ensure that every nook and cranny of the state benefit from the dividend of democracy.
Earlier, the Acting Director of Hydrogeology, Mr. AbdulRasaq Adebayo, and the Director of Water Engineering Services, Engineer Yusuf Wopa, who briefed the Commissioner said that they had earlier visited some project sites and the challenges they faced from the Consultants.
Responding during the meeting, the Consultants Al-Hassan Limited and Dabarak Nigeria Limited among others promised not to disappoint the state government on the confidence reposed in them, adding that they will do the needful as soon as possible.
