The new Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi has charged the Management of the Ministry and Heads of the 11 State-owned Tertiary Institutions, to remain committed and steadfast towards realizing the policy thrust of the state government in the tertiary education sector.
Dr. Alabi made the call in his office on Monday during his maiden meeting with top management staff of the Ministry and Heads of Tertiary Institutions in the state.
He urged them to be proactive and bring up innovative ideas towards scaling up efficiency at their respective directorates and citadels of learning.
The Commissioner called for mutual working relationship with the Management and Staff of the Ministry to showcase the initiatives and activities of the Ministry for the progress of the state.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Sidikat Bola Alaya while congratulating the Commissioner, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment and support towards a harmonious working relationship for the betterment of the state.
Hajia Alaya prayed for God’s guidance and the wisdom with which the Commissioner would paddle the affairs of the Ministry to greater heights.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Muhammed Mustafa Akanbi (SAN), while welcoming the Commissioner on board sought for government intervention in the areas of grants, land encroachment and adequate subventions for the smooth running of the Institutions.
Prof. Akanbi stressed the need for government to constitute a Land Review Committee for the 11 state-owned Tertiary Institutions, in order to curb the land encroachment crisis currently lingering in the respective institutions and neighbouring villages.
Also speaking, the Provost, College of Education, Oro, Prof. Mukaila Aremu appealed to the Commissioner to use his good offices to facilitate the rehabilitation of the internal road and renovation of the Multi-Purpose Hall in the College.
In attendance were the Directors of the Ministry and Heads of the Tertiary Institutions, who all plegded their unflinching support and loyalty to the State Government.
