The Palace of the Emir of Ilorin has reaffirmed the strong relationship between the Emir, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, and Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON.

This comes after a recent article suggested a “cold war” between the two leaders. However, the Palace has described this report as a “deliberate attempt to blackmail the Royal Stool and Seat of Power in the State” (Arowona Abdulazeez, spokesman to the Emir of Ilorin).

According to Dr. Muritala Abdulraheem, Personal Assistant to the Emir, Governor AbdulRazaq has consistently treated the Emir with utmost respect, trust, and confidence, akin to a father-son relationship. “Since his inception to the seat of Power as the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq CON has been relating with the Emir as his father with utmost respect, trust, and confidence,”

Dr. Abdulraheem said. “There is absolute trust and love between the duo and the Emir always accord him high regards as the Number One citizen of the state” (Dr. Muritala Abdulraheem, Personal Assistant to the Emir).

Dr. Abdulraheem revealed that Governor AbdulRazaq has been instrumental in supporting the Emir’s travels, including sponsoring his tours and providing chartered flights for his medical trips abroad. Specifically, when the Emir was billed to travel to Germany for his annual vacation and medical checks, Governor AbdulRazaq made arrangements for a chartered flight and ensured that all necessary allowances were provided.

However, due to some missing documents, the Emir’s aides were unable to secure visas to Germany. Governor AbdulRazaq promptly intervened, making arrangements with the French Embassy for the Emir’s party to obtain Schengen visas, which would have allowed them to enter Germany. Although this plan was ultimately not feasible due to other official engagements, the Emir was able to travel to Turkey for medical treatment, with Governor AbdulRazaq providing a chartered flight and ensuring the Emir’s comfort throughout his stay.

The Palace has warned against using the Emir’s stool as a tool for gossip and mischief, emphasizing the peaceful coexistence and harmonious working relationship between the Palace and the Government House.

“The stool of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR should not become tools of gossip in the hands of mischief makers and enemies of progress under any guise,” Arowona Abdulazeez, spokesman to the Emir of Ilorin, said.

An investigation is ongoing to uncover the mastermind behind the frivolous article, which was written by Kayode Alfred. When confronted about his motivations, Alfred apologized and expressed his willingness to retract the article. “Ejoor e mabinu, e fori jimi” (“Please don’t be annoyed, forgive me”), Alfred said in a telephone conversation. “I will retract it”, says Kayode Alfred, author of the article.
