FIO Foundation visits KORO-AFOJU, doles out food and domestic items

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Fatimah Ibrahim Opeyemi Foundation has distributed food packages to over 200 indigents and vulnerable individuals in Koro Afoju, Gambari Area, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The food distribution project tagged ‘Feed the Vulnerable Project’ is part of the activities to commemorate the just concluded World Food Day 2021, as the initiative’s had in previous months distributed foods to people living with disability in different parts of the state.

Speaking, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of FIO FOUNDATION, Ms Fatimah Ibrahim Opeyemi, emphasised the importance of food in the lives of people, especially the vulnerables who are facing series of societal challenges.

According to her, “This food distribution to the vulnerables is a core objective of the establishment because we believe the indigents and people living with disability should always be remembered and that is one of the reasons we are doing this through the foundation.

In his remarks, the Project Manager, Basheer Luqman Olarewaju said, “A typical disabled person in our society today is faced with numerous challenges like feeding, self-reliance and so on. We, therefore, intend to ensure that with the distribution of this food and clothing materials, feeding will be the last issue on their mind.

“FIO FOUNDATION is an organisation that focuses on ending extreme hunger. The NGO is also working towards achieving sustainable development through deliberate actions that promote the welfare of women and children, by giving them equal access to opportunities and empowerment to achieve the best for themselves.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mallam Abubakar, expressed his delight at the gesture by FIO FOUNDATION, saying, “life has not been easy as a disabled person but I thank God for what FIO FOUNDATION has done to put a smile on my face. This will go a long way in feeding me and my three children.”
