Four die in flash flood in Niger State

Four people have been confirmed dead and several others missing in a flash flood that occurred in Niger State.

The incident, which submerged over 1,000 farmlands and destroyed 200 houses occurred in Mashegu and Kontagora local government areas.

The Nation learnt the flood took the people unawares despite the warnings of the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) that communities in flood prone areas should relocate to safer place.

The NSEMA Director General, Alhaji Ibrahim Inga confirmed the incident.

He said the search are on for missing people.

According to him, the cause of the flood is unknown adding that investigation has commenced to unravel if it was natural flood or excess water released from somewhere.

A resident of Mashegu, Malam Abubakar Imam, said a lot of houses were destroyed while crops were washed away.

In Kontagora local government area, Alhaji Murtala Salisu, said the flood washed away some of his properties, including over 30 bags of rice.
