Ifelodun: Femi Yusuf Sets up reclamation panel to investigate Local Government Properties

In a move to safeguard public assets and promote transparency, the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, has inaugurated an 11-men special committee tasked with verifying all government properties, including land, buildings, and other public assets. The inauguration was held on Monday in the presence of local Government officials and Women Stakeholders at the Council Secretariat in Share.

In a statement by the Chief press secretary to the Chairman, During the inauguration, the Chairman outlined the committee’s responsibilities, while also emphasizing the importance of conducting a thorough audit of the local government’s properties. The committee is expected to identify any discrepancies in the management or distribution of these properties and verify their current condition and usage.

“We use this moment to inaugurate this committee without biases,” the Chairman remarked. “We are not directing you towards any individual or corporate entities. We simply want our properties back. We are giving the committee an ultimatum of 21 days to submit a preliminary report. After reviewing the report, we will decide if further time is needed to complete the work.”

“As you all can see, the committee membership is a careful mix of core professionals, accomplished administrators and strata leaders who have distinguished themselves over the years. The entire Local Government is banking on the committee to preserve, reclaim and protect our common patrimony.”

The Chairman of the newly inaugurated committee, Chief Ibrahim Lawal, expressed his appreciation for the trust reposed in him alongside other members of the committee and pledged to deliver on the mandate of the committee. In his address, Lawal recalled his experience serving on a similar committee during the inception of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration in 2019, where he worked to investigate the illegal acquisition of state properties.

“The Chairman’s vision for this initiative is clear. I remember how we set up a similar committee in 2019, at the inception of Gov. Abdulrazaq’s administration, where I served as the committee’s secretary. We produced several reports addressing the properties that had been illegally acquired. I assure you that we will apply the same dedication to this task and ensure we deliver.”

Ibrahim Lawal brings to bear, a wealth of experience to this role, having served in several capacities related to asset and property management. Beyond serving on the Committee for the Review of Sales of Kwara State Government Assets/Properties (2019), He retired as a Federal Administrative Director and also, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN).He has also served as Head of the Department of Purchasing and Supply at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

The committee’s core responsibilities, as stated by the local government chairman include, auditing all government properties, lands, buildings, Investments and other public assets; assessing the foreign currency status of properties held by the government; investigating any discrepancies or irregularities in the management or distribution of these properties; evaluating the condition, authorized usage, sales, leases, or transfers of the properties; reporting any misuse or mismanagement; reviewing documentation related to the use and transfer of properties; interviewing relevant stakeholders, including property managers and third-party participants; investigating compliance with government regulations on property management; assessing financial transactions related to the properties; and submitting a comprehensive report on the properties’ current condition and usage.

The committee is expected to submit a preliminary report within 21 days, at which point the Ifelodun Local Government Chairman will assess the need for an extension of the committee’s work.
