Ifelodun LG Chairman Engages Journalists, Reels Out One-Year Scorecard

The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, held a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Hall, Offa Road, Ilorin, to commemorate his first year in office.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Yusuf expressed profound gratitude to the people of Ifelodun for their support, noting that his first year in office has been a period of “transformative growth and visible impact.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to complementing the efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, in spreading development across all 18 wards of the local government.

The Chairman highlighted numerous projects executed within the year, cutting across healthcare, water supply, road construction, education, electrification, agriculture, and security. Notably, his administration completed and renovated several primary healthcare centers, constructed solar-powered motorized boreholes and hand-pump boreholes, installed solar streetlights in various communities, and graded critical road networks to ease movement and boost economic activities.

In the health sector, Hon. Yusuf announced the reactivation of the drug revolving scheme across primary healthcare centers and the facilitation of multiple upgrades through IMPACT. He also stressed that his administration had invested in technology-driven healthcare planning and human resource development.

On security, the Chairman revealed that 20 motorcycles were procured to support local security outfits, 100 forest guards were employed and trained, and modern gadgets, including bulletproof vests, were provided to strengthen security operations. He added that markets in Ganmo, Amoyo, and Iyana Share now benefit from the creation of the Ifelodun Road Traffic Marshals (IRTM) to control congestion and prevent accidents on market days.

Speaking on agriculture, Hon. Yusuf disclosed that his administration refurbished four abandoned tractors, procured additional ridgers, and empowered 500 livestock farmers through step-down training, machinery distribution, and livestock support.

On governance, the Council Secretariat has witnessed improvements with the renovation of the Chairman’s Council Hall, Legislative Council Hall, and provision of operational vehicles for NULGE and the legislature.

Addressing security concerns, Hon. Yusuf acknowledged the challenges posed by kidnappers and other non-state actors, which recently forced the restriction of Core Market’s operations to between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. He explained that the decision was a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

“We call on all stakeholders to put politics aside and come together to pray for lasting peace, security, and prosperity in Ifelodun Local Government and Kwara State at large,” the Chairman appealed.

The press conference also featured goodwill messages. Former Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Arch Abogunrin in his remarks, lauded the achievements of Hon. Yusuf, admitting that the present administration’s one-year record surpassed what he was able to achieve in three years, though he emphasized that challenges vary across administrations.

Other dignitaries in attendance included the APC Chairman of Ifelodun LG, Former chairman of Ifelodun LG ; Arch. Abogunrin, Speaker of Ifelodun LG; Rt. Hon. Garba Jimoh, Comrade Abdulrauf Labelabe and journalists from various media houses.
