The Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has unveiled strategic plans to enhance its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) following the submission of a comprehensive report by its Revenue Generation Committee on Monday.
The report was received by the Executive Chairman, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf
According to the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Are Olawale, the report identified several critical areas requiring attention. These include streamlining market revenue collection and re-evaluating the management of facilities to ensure they are optimally utilized by traders and generate adequate maintenance fees.
“We conducted on-the-spot assessments to provide detailed insights for improving our IGR. We have offered all necessary recommendations to the council, leveraging our expertise to promote revenue growth to the desired level,” he stated.
The Committee proposed stricter monitoring measures and setting specific targets, particularly for the collection of 2025 permits. It also highlighted the need for the full rehabilitation of certain facilities to maximize their revenue potential.
Furthermore, the Committee recommended revitalizing the local government’s mass transit system to sustain its services and generate additional income. It also advised the sale of outdated equipment through official channels, with proceeds reinvested in acquiring new, functional assets.
The Chairman, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, expressed gratitude to the Committee for its diligence and emphasized the need for swift implementation of the recommendations. He reiterated the council’s commitment to strengthening the local government’s financial standing for the benefit of its residents.
Stakeholders resent at the meeting were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Nike Ajibola; Speaker of the Ifelodun Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Jimoh Garba; Development Officer, Hon. Ayanshola Benjamin; Chief of Staff, Dr. Ademola Zubair; departmental heads, party stalwarts, and other dignitaries.
