The Committee on Educational Reform in Ifelodun Local Government has submitted its report to the Executive Chairman, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, following three weeks of intensive work. The chairman submission took place on Monday at the council’s secretariat.

During the presentation, the Chairperson of the committee, Alhaja Barakat Atunse, commended the Chairman for his vision in addressing the pressing challenges facing education in the local government.

“With over 2,000 primary and secondary schools across the local government, our visits revealed institutions in varying states of dereliction. The data collected has been verified, and our recommendations aim to reverse the declining trends and restore the glory of our educational system,” she explained.

She further observed that while the education sector had previously been in a deplorable state, the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has made strides in improving infrastructure and human resources since 2019. She expressed optimism that the Chairman would complement the Governor’s efforts.

The Secretary of the committee, Alhaji Suleiman Al-Amin, suggested that mechanisms be established to curb truancy and negligence among teachers, ensuring accountability in schools.

The Chairman, in response, expressed gratitude to the committee for their dedication and patriotic service. He assured them that their recommendations would be implemented to bring meaningful change to the sector.

He also announced plans to award scholarships to top-performing students in fields such as agriculture, medicine, and law.

“We are committed to changing the narrative. We trust in the recommendations provided by the committee and will set up a team to monitor teachers who neglect their duties. We will not tolerate actions that undermine the education system,” he stated.

Key stakeholders present at the meeting included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Nike Ajibola; Speaker of the Ifelodun Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Jimoh Garba; Development Officer, Hon. Ayanshola Benjamin; Chief of Staff, Dr. Ademola Zubair; Departmental heads, party stalwarts and other dignitaries.
