Over four hundred Kwara state indigenes who have completed their six months training at the International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College, IVTEC, Ajase-Ipo have started enjoying the dividends of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s led administration, especially for his conviction and strong believe in the youth as the future of the state.
This became more obvious at the third graduation ceremony held at the college in which the event witnessed awarding of Technical and Entrepreneurship Certificate to beneficiaries under the Youth Employment and Empowerment Generation Scheme, YEEGS, as well as members of the Artisans Congress and Self-sponsored trainees.
Delivering his address at the event, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq noted that consultations are ongoing among various stakeholders on how to further consolidate on the achievements of the institution.
The Governor, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Afeez Abolore Alabi further explain that as a reasonable government, it will continue to invest in programs and projects that will propel sustainable development and make the youths more self-reliant and prosperous.
The Governor however, urged Kwarans both at home and in the diaspora to continue their support for the present administration in the overall interest of the state.
In fulfillment of the Governor’s promise, the ceremony also witnessed presentation of Empowerment Start-up packages to beneficiaries of the YEEGS programme.
In his address, the Rector of the college, Dr. Yaru Saliu expressed how appreciative the institution is for the support given by the state government and commended the Governor for his supports towards the progress and development of the institution which has no doubt, rekindled Technical and Vocational Education Training in the State.
While enumerating the achievements of the college under the state government, Dr. Saliu stressed that Kwara State Youth Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme, KWYEEGS was enjoyed by the college, where provision of employment start-up packages was presented to beneficiaries such as 30 percentage reduction on tuition fee for Kwara state indigenes, academic program expansion, increased collaborative and partnership efforts, prompt payment of salaries, among others were enjoyed too.
The Rector also charged students of the institution to be good ambassadors of the institution, their families and be responsible citizens of the country.
While giving his keynote address, the Chairman, Governing Council of the ollege, Alhaji Yekini Bukoye, requested the consent of the Governor to amend the college establishment law and upgrade the status of the college to a National Diploma (ND), awarding institution which is accepted by most Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
Some of the graduands, Adetomiwa Ige of System Security Department and Ramat Ahmed of Catering Department expressed their satisfaction on how the college has impacted much in their lives and promised to maximize the opportunity given to become self-reliant by also giving back to the society.
Present at the event include, government functionaries, Royal Fathers, Religous leaders, Academics, Parents, National Body of Omo Ibile Igbomina and other relevant stakeholders.
