Yesterday, 12 March 2022, the Kwara North Development Council (KWANDCO) attended the annual fishing festival held in Pututa, Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The fishing festival which is the maiden is aimed at promoting fishing activities, promote socio-cultural heritage, and tourism in the community also features cultural performances; dancing, swimming, and fishing competition and amongst other intriguing activities.
The chairman of KWANDCO, Comrade Jerry Maajin Kolo on behalf of the organization said witnessing such an important festival is the kind of development the council has set out to prioritize as one of its objectives to promote and attract opportunities and development to Pututa community and the rest of Kwara North region.
He further called on the Kwara State Government and other stakeholders from Kwara North to make it a point of importance in supporting programmes of this nature as it will further put the state in a good light while also boosting the economic potentials abound in fishing activities in the community and beyond, he said.
Mallam Haruna who spoke on behalf of the Community in his remarks appreciated the presence of KWANDCO, “Indeed your August attendant to our festival is so magnanimous and surprising and we will not cease to appreciate that” he said.
The colorful and fascinating event which has the attendance of the TIC Chairman of Edu LGA, Hon Aliyu Labasa, Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Hon Gideon Saba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Water Resources, Hon Ndanusa Lafiagi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Job Creation, Barrister Aliyu Alhassan amongst other stakeholders was organized by Emi-Tswadya Youth Forum, Pututa in Lafiagi.
