Residents of Alagbon community in Ilorin South local government, Kwara state has taken the initiative to improve its infrastructure by funding the grading of over 2 kilometers of adjoining roads within the community.

According to the Chairman of Alagbon-Kajola Emirate Estate Community, Mr. Bamidele Ashaolu, the ongoing project gulped over N2million, fund raised through contribution by residents of the community.

“The ongoing road grading project is not the first of our interventions to ensure we keep our road manageably motorable. Year in and out, after raining season, the road which connects Old Jebba road to Judges Quarters/Taoheed road via Oke Adini use to be badly deteriorated, so we tax ourselves to fix it. Early this year, the heavy rain almost collapsed our bridge, it also cost us huge amount to fix it.

“Our thinking as a community is that development is a collective responsibility. We understand government cannot do it all alone, as individuals, it is our way of finding succor pending the time we will get government support.

“Recently, the government came to take stock of our electricity need because we don’t have light at all. In anticipation of transformer promised us and to show our support, just last week, we have constructed a transformer fence and also trying to raise funds for extension to various streets of the community when the transformer arrives”, Ashaolu stated.

Ashaolu therefore urged the Mal. AbdulRazaq led Kwara state government to assist in the construction of the road before the next rainy season hits the area.

Additionally, the chairman urges the government to expedite the provision of a much-needed transformer, as a follow up to the survey already conducted by the government team from Kwara state Ministry of Energy, for an electricity project in the area, following separate letters submitted to the Ministry of Work and Energy.

The graded roads in the community includes the major road connecting Old Jebba road via Oke Adini to Tanke via Judges Quarters/Taoheed road, and other adjoining roads that links Alagbon, Akorede, Obate and Tapa communities.

The graded roads in the community will greatly benefit the residents, assisting in the smooth flow of traffic and improving access to various areas within the locality. Furthermore, the construction of these roads will enhance transportation efficiency and consequent stimulation of economic activities, while making it easier for the residents to commute.
