On May 22nd, the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Transport Affairs to the Kwara State Governor, in collaboration with the International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase Ipo, organized a one-day driver sensitization training workshop for transporters in Ilorin. The program aimed to sensitize 3000 drivers in the public and private transportation sectors in Kwara state, with a focus on promoting road safety and professionalism.
The event, themed “Promoting Road Safety and Professionalism,” took place in the Banquet Hall opposite the Government House in Ilorin and was attended by representatives from the Nigeria forces, chairmen of transporter associations, and other stakeholders. Dr. Abdulaziz Jiddah, representing the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring safe driving and preventing road accidents.
Dr. Mrs. Mercy Ilori, representing the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Hon Saidu Alikali, emphasized the importance of state participation in road safety initiatives and urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys. The Rector of IVTEC, Dr. Yaru Salihu, acknowledged the program as an important initiative aimed at preventing hazardous road accidents and enhancing drivers’ knowledge.
Other attendees included the Director-General for the National Institerate of Culture Orientation, Sir Otunba Abiodun Ajiboye; the Acting National General Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NHQ), Comrade Kayode Agbeyangi; Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon Mary Ronke; and the GM of Kwassip, Hon Olayinka Tejidini, among others.
