Kwara North Senator Awards Research Grants to Varsity Students

Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, and representing Kwara North Senatorial District is set to award research grants to six postgraduate students at the University of Ilorin.

In a statement signed by the President of the University of Ilorin Postgraduate Students’ Association, Mr Abdullahi Isiaq Toyin, the grants will aid the students in conducting hitch-free research.

Mr. Isiaq further disclosed, “The grants are divided into two categories based on academic levels. At the master’s level, the awards include 200,000 Naira for the first-place recipient, 150,000 Naira for the second, and 100,000 Naira for the third. For the PhD level, the first-place recipient will be awarded 300,000 Naira, the second 200,000 Naira, and the third 150,000 Naira.

“Earlier, the Association had placed an advertisement inviting proposals for the grants from students and following a rigorous and transparent screening process, judges comprising lecturers within the institution have identified and selected the successful candidates for these prestigious grants.

“The presentation of the grant awards will take place on the same date as the POGSASS Fresh Students Orientation program, on January 9, 2024,” the president disclosed.

Speaking on the overall benefit of the grants, Mr. Isiaq disclosed “This initiative not only supports academic research but also recognizes and rewards excellence in postgraduate studies, contributing to the development of knowledge and expertise within the university community.
