In an effort to combat the growing concern of drug abuse among students, the MOK Foundation has launched a comprehensive drug abuse awareness campaign in secondary schools across Offa and Oyun LGAs. The campaign, titled ” SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND CRIME PREVENTION AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL
STUDENTS” aims to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse, promote healthy choices, and provide support for those struggling with addiction.
The campaign was launched in response to alarming statistics showing a significant increase in drug use among teenagers. According to recent studies, “findings show that people between the ages of 12-20 consume more than 1/10 of all alcohol consumed in Nigeria.1 secondary school students in Nigeria abuse alcohol more than any other drug” highlighting the need for urgent action to address this critical issue.
The MOK Foundation recognizes that secondary school students are particularly vulnerable to drug use, as they face various pressures, including peer influence, academic stress, and social media exposure. To address this, the campaign will focus on equipping students with knowledge, skills, and support to resist drug use and build healthy relationships.
