In a bid to ensure security of lives and properties across Moro local government, The executive Chairperson of Moro local government, Hajiya Mariam Abdulwasiu Omotayo has commissioned and inaugurated a community policing scheme “Operation Secure Moro” (OSM).
The commissioning which was held at Bode-Saadu the headquarters of Moro local government had in attendance, traditional rulers, community leaders and all security agencies.
Under this scheme, the chairperson recruited 100 local vigilantes from different local communities across the seventeen wards of Moro local government.
According to the chairperson, the local security vigilantes under the “OSM” Scheme will be deployed to strategic locations, like boarder communities, forests and market areas, this is due to the fact that Moro local government share boundaries with Niger state and some local governments that are experiencing insecurity
“It is my duty to protect the lives and properties of our people as one of my fundamental responsibilities and this necessitates the establishment of this community policing scheme which I tagged “Operation Secure Moro”, the success of this scheme cannot be achieved without the cooperation of our traditional rulers, community leaders and all security agencies” She added.
The chairperson also promised to provide mobility, security gadgets and organize time to time trainings for the security guards under the scheme in addition to the trainings they had where they would be trained by security experts on how to gather intelligence and collaborate with security agencies to combat crimes.
A Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Abdurazak Akano who spoke at the occasion on behalf of the Nigerian police force charged the local security guards to be committed to duty and not take laws into their hands, he urge them to ensure strong collaboration with the Nigerian Police and fish out the bad eggs in Moro communities.
The representative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense corps, CSC Abdurasheed Alaya commended the chairperson for the initiative and urged the local security guards not to compromise, he also promised to collaborate with the local security guards in combating crimes across Moro local government.
The Daudu Bode-Saadu Alhaji Aliyu Olarongbe Gambari and Ohoro of Shao, Oba Dr. Job Atolagbe who spoke on behalves of traditional rulers and community leaders also applauded the initiative of the chairperson and promised to support the local guards and ensure safer communities across the local government.
