Today, 24th of August, 2024, Moro Local Government is celebrating its 48th anniversary—a significant milestone in our history. Established alongside eleven other local government areas in Kwara State on Tuesday August 24th, 1976, by the then military government under the leadership of General Olusegun Obasanjo as the Head of State in Nigeria. Moro has journeyed through nearly five decades of growth, challenges, and development. As we mark this occasion, it is imperative to reflect on our progress and consider the path ahead for our beloved Local Government.
Over the years, Moro Local Government has made strides in various sectors, including agriculture, education, and community development. Our agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of our economy, providing sustenance and employment for many of our people. We have witnessed improvements in our educational institutions, with more children gaining access to basic and secondary education. There have also been notable efforts in infrastructure development, although with room for further advancement.
However, as we reflect on these achievements, we must also acknowledge that the pace of our progress has been uneven. While we have made commendable strides, we must ask ourselves: have we done enough to propel Moro Local Government to the heights it deserves?
It is worth noting that some local governments, created as recently as 1996 during the Abacha regime, have produced Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, and other notable figures who have held influential positions at both the state and national levels. These local governments have become powerhouses, with their leaders playing significant roles in shaping policies and driving development.
In contrast, Moro Local Government has yet to fully realize its political potential. While we have capable and passionate individuals, the question remains: why have we not produced more leaders who can advocate for our interests at higher levels of government? What has hindered our progress in this regard, and how can we overcome these obstacles?
The answers to these questions lie in our ability to come together as a community. Unity and love are essential for any meaningful progress. Without them, it will be difficult for us to attain greater heights. If we, the people of Moro Local Government, do not want to continue being left behind, we must foster unity within our ranks. We must put aside our differences, embrace our shared identity, and work collaboratively for the betterment of our community.
Unity is not just a word; it is a driving force that can propel us to new levels of success. It is the foundation upon which we can build a future where Moro Local Government is recognized not only within Kwara State but across Nigeria for its achievements and contributions to national development.
As we chart the course for the future, we must also recognize the role that our wealthy and influential indigenes can play in the development of Moro Local Government. Many of our sons and daughters have achieved great success in various fields, both within Nigeria and abroad. It is time for them to return to their roots and invest in the growth and prosperity of our Local Government.
Whether through investments in agriculture, education, infrastructure, or healthcare, the contributions of our indigenes can make a significant difference. By coming together and leveraging our collective resources, we can transform Moro Local Government into a symbol of progress, unity, and prosperity.
As we celebrate the 48th anniversary of Moro Local Government, it’s important we celebrate the spirit of our founding fathers both living and dead and also appreciate their courage in the struggle for the creation of our dear local government in 1976. We must not forget to appreciate the resilient and forthrightness of our present leaders, youth and women in building a Moro of our dreams through the birth of MORO DESCENDANTS DEVELOPMENT UNION (MODDU) a socio-cultural organization that will serve as our mouthpiece, standing the test of time.
Let us take this moment to reflect on our journey so far and renew our commitment to building a brighter future. The challenges we face are not insurmountable, but overcoming them will require unity, love, and a shared vision for the future.
Let us come together as one community, harness our collective strengths, and work towards a future where Moro Local Government Area is a beacon of hope, progress, and prosperity for all its people.
The future is in our hands—let us seize it together.
You are all welcome to *”NEW MORO!”*
