In a highly contested and vibrant election, students of Ekiti State University in affiliation with Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, exercised their democratic rights by participating in the Students’ Union election held on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, within the university campus.
The keenly watched election featured two Presidential candidates, each vying for the esteemed position of President. The candidates were Comrade Abdulquadir Muhammed Jamaldeen, hailing from the Economics Education department, and Comrade Balogun Abdulqudus Olayinka, representing the Social Studies department.
After the votes were cast and diligently counted, Comrade Abdulquadir Muhammed Jamaldeen emerged as the victor, securing the coveted position of President of the Students’ Union. The election results revealed that Comrade Balogun Abdulqudus Olayinka garnered 461 votes, while the newly elected President, Comrade Abdulquadir Muhammed Jamaldeen, received 476 votes. Additionally, there were 39 invalid votes in the tally.
The election was a testament to the students’ commitment to the democratic process, and it showcased their active involvement in shaping the leadership of their union. As President, Comrade Abdulquadir Muhammed Jamaldeen will assume a crucial role in representing the interests and aspirations of the student body, and it is hoped that he will lead with dedication and integrity.
