Late yesterday, the Prudent Watch got hold of a leading All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Muktar Shagaya, who promised to harness economic opportunities to improve the wellbeing of his constituents, if given the privilege to serve.
Muktar Shagaya is a graduate of International Relations and he disclosed this on Monday during an interactive session with the Association of Kwara State Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) at his Ilorin GRA Residence.
According to him, we can use agriculture, pottery, and tourism to develop our constituency. For instance, the Cashew in Asa local government has huge economic benefits in the international market. Therefore, we can get our people involved to improve their standard of living. The same thing applies to pottery and cherished Ilorin Emirate Tradition/Culture via tourism.
The Business Development Expert said his aspiration was born out of the desire to accelerate the development of the two local government areas within the constituency and Kwara State at large.
His words: “I am running to better the lot of my people irrespective of their social or economic status. As a young person with wide exposure, I want to replicate and attract good things have seen in other parts of Nigeria and beyond here. I believe we can achieve much more by getting involved in governance and policymaking”.
Shagaya hinted that his ongoing engagement with different groups and stakeholders will be used to develop a workable and implementable legislative agenda and blueprint for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency.
Speaking on his chance of clinching the APC ticket, Shagaya expressed optimism about winning the forthcoming primary election, noting that the acceptability of his candidacy among party faithful is growing daily.
“I am working hard to get the party ticket but God has the final say on every matter. We enjoy a good acceptability rating among party members in the two local government areas. We just met APC members from Magaji Ngeri ward of Ilorin West local government who came to show their solidarity and support”, he concluded.
