Monday 19th of January, 2026, a special prayer session was held at the Nupe Central Mosque, Ojagboro (Soro 2), Ilorin, in honour of the Etsu Nupe of Bida, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Yahya Abubakar, CFR, in recognition of his longstanding gestures, kindness, and support to the Nupe people and humanity at large.

The prayer was organized by Alhaji Abdullah Alkali and attracted Nupe indigenes, Islamic scholars, community leaders, and well-wishers from within and outside Ilorin.

The gathering was convened to appreciate the Emir’s selfless contributions to the development and welfare of Nupe communities across Kwara, Niger, Kogi States, and beyond, while also praying for his continued good health, long life, and sustained leadership.

The programme commenced with an opening prayer led by Fadilatu Sheikh Alhaji Abdulkadir Yunsa, the Makadama Nupe of Ilorin, followed by Qur’anic recitations and supplications by Islamic clerics present at the event.

Speaking during the programme, Alhaji Abdullah Alkali described the Etsu Nupe as a leader whose doors are open to all, irrespective of tribe or background.

He noted that the Emir has consistently supported people whenever they seek help, a virtue that has endeared him to many across different communities.

According to him, after deep reflection on what gift would be most appropriate for the Emir, he concluded that prayer was the greatest offering, as Allah has already blessed the monarch abundantly.

He therefore led prayers asking Allah to reward the Etsu Nupe for his good deeds, grant him long life in good health and wealth, and continue to strengthen him in leadership.

Prayers were also offered for all Muslim traditional rulers, asking Allah to support them in their efforts toward peace and unity.

The special prayer session ended on a solemn note, with participants expressing gratitude for the opportunity to collectively pray for the revered monarch and reaffirm their respect and loyalty to his leadership.
