With the essential demand for computer literacy and digital skills in the contemporary world, and in his quest to expose the students in public school to ICT knowledge, the Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe has today, Friday 3rd February 2023 handed over an ICT-equipped room to the management of Ansarul-Islam Secondary School, Ogidi, Ilorin, to enrich the quality of teaching and learning available to the students.
The project, facilitated by the lawmaker as part of his year 2022 Capital Project, was executed in fulfilment of the vision to acquaint the students in public schools with life in the technology-driven 21st century and prepare them for the competitiveness surrounding postsecondary education engagements and in the outer world.
In his address at the handing over of the equipped room to the school management, Sen. Oloriegbe ably represented by his aide, Malam Hadi Ashimiyu, underscored the significance of ICT and the necessity for its integration into the teaching and learning process, explaining that it stimulates the use of innovative educational resources; fosters more active teamwork amongst the students; and the simultaneous acquisition of technological knowledge to surmount the challenges associated with the present generation.
“If we examine how the world is unfolding today, we would discover that Information Communication Technology (ICT) is impacting much on our society, as such, the educational system is promptly becoming technology-based, similarly, proficiency in ICT usage is constituting part of everyone’s curriculum vitae and enhancing employability chances.
“Having acknowledged the quest for early acquisition of ICT skills by students, we deemed it necessary to find ways to provide the basic tools for our students in public schools to acquire the necessary computer skills that will aid them in their education so that they can compete favourably with their counterparts in the private schools.
“We have hope that these set of gadgets being handed over to the school management today will impact efficiently on the teaching and learning development of the students. We, therefore appeal for judicious use of the items so they can serve many sets of students in the school.
Speaking on behalf of the school management, the principal of the senior section, Malam Hadi Abdulrauf commended the senator for being a proud and worthy ambassador of the school expressing that the school is always proud of his strides and always cites him as an exemplary model to inspire the present crop of students. He also acknowledged other interventions which Oloriegbe had in the school which include and not limited to the facilitation of Science Laboratory equipment, water reticulation and annual scholarships for exceptional science students.
In a separate remark, the head of the Computer Department, Mustapha Abdulhakeem while appreciating Oloriegbe’s gesture pledged to make effective use of the gadgets to further engage the students in quality academic activities that will not only make them technologically crafty but also good and responsible citizens for the country.
The ICT tools handed over to the school were; desktop computers, scanners, Internet routers, Lamination Machines, Printers, Projectors, Air Conditioning, fans, generators and solar powered-kits for alternative power sources.
