Open Letter: Celebrating TentToSchool’s Innovative Approach to Education in Conflict Zones -Atunde Ahmed

Get more connected to the real facts

One of the dire consequences of any calamity, especially armed conflicts, is the hindrance of children’s fundamental right to education. This lamentable reality became all too evident with the first explosion that marked the beginning of 12 long years of attacks in the northeast region of Nigeria by groups such as Boko Haram and other non-state actors who sought to deprive children of access to education. While we may not be certain whether we are entirely in the post-conflict period yet, what is undeniable is that we, as a nation, have made progress, albeit limited, in recent months, thanks in no small part to the valiant efforts of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

In both conflict and post-conflict environments, the need for education persists. Unfortunately, numerous obstacles, such as poverty and a lack of educational infrastructure, continue to deprive countless children of this essential right. It is in this context that Riki Siman and TentToSchool have emerged as beacons of hope. Your innovative solution, which brings education to displaced children and equips them with the skills to read and write, is nothing short of remarkable. By doing so, you and your dedicated team are at the forefront of championing access to and the availability of educational opportunities in conflict-ridden regions.

Riki Siman and his team are champions of access and availability of educational opportunities in the conflict-ridden region. Having reached more than five communities and impacted the lives of over 200 children, TentToSchool is making an incredible difference where teachers are scarce. Your volunteers, who tirelessly bridge the gap in learning opportunities, deserve commendation.

I have had the privilege of participating in some of TentToSchool’s activities, and it fills me with immense joy. As TentToSchool celebrates its one-year anniversary, I want to emphasize that the world is watching, and the children you are reaching are growing into solution designers who will catalyze the redevelopment of the northeast region. All of this is thanks to the innovative vision of Siman Riki and the unwavering resilience of TentToSchool’s volunteers, who embody the spirit of “leaving no one behind.”

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the work you do and the difference you are making in the lives of vulnerable children. Your dedication and innovative approach are truly inspirational, and I look forward to seeing the continued positive impact of TentToSchool in the years to come.
