Henceforth, it would be interesting weeks in my Ward. For those of us that have been watching patiently the inanities of some of the political appointees and elected officials, hoping for befitting and required change, for the past three years, it would definitely feel very much like Déjà vu.
With your deriding acts, may I call your attention to issues affecting us. Anyways, most of you understand but decided to focus not. I hope we won’t be reeling from what many would be called a gale of defections that promised to be threatening.
As the 2023 General Elections get closer, we are trying to find an edge over others. The question is, how many of you come to ward level to associate with the grassroots? Remember, grassroots mobilizers are important institutions for developing policies and platforms and providing critical oversight and accountability of government action in the local politics. Do you have electoral value in their sights?!
Through them alone government can reach the minimal cadres in the ward. Most of you are far away, rather than to reflect the ideology of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. I got informed that most of you are yet to attend a single ward meeting let alone be identified with the Ward you are representing. Remember, because of the ward’s social and geographic divide, our votes are driven by personalities as opposed to ideologies — emerging political alliances are based mostly on personalities and agreements among political players, and do not necessarily reflect differences in policy preference or ideology.
Ojuekun/Sarumi is a dynamic ward with one of the fastest growing populations in the state. We deserve political office holders who are not only generating answers to the ward’s complex problems but are also engaging its citizens about the best way forward. When we go to vote on 2023, we will vote for the candidate that has put forth the best vision for the future of this ward.
Till then, there is time to reflect over your actions. Keeping mute would not solve our problem. This is my personal opinion.
I am Basheer Luqman Olarewaju. APC is my party. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is my leader.
