… Builds Tallest Flagpole In West Africa

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to unlocking more communities for development and boosting the state’s global relevance through major infrastructural investments.

This assurance was given by the Hon. Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, during the first quarter 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, held Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room in Ilorin, the state capital.

Engr. Olododo disclosed that out of 46 projects that were active in the last quarter of 2024, 33 have now been fully completed, while 11 are currently ongoing. He revealed that 24 new road projects have already been awarded in 2025, with 6 of them completed within the first quarter.

Among the major projects, he highlighted the Agbamu–Ila-Orangun road construction as a critical inter-state route designed to boost trade and ease movement between Kwara and Osun States.

He added that additional border communities would soon be opened up in line with the administration’s development agenda.

The Commissioner also addressed the resumption of previously delayed road projects, explaining that cost variation issues have been resolved, paving the way for progress, particularly in the newly awarded GRA roads within Ilorin and other priority areas across the state.

In a major symbolic move, Olododo announced the construction of a 70-meter flagpole—now the tallest in West Africa—located on the Wahab Folawiyo Unity Road in Ilorin. He described the structure as a proud emblem of Kwara’s emerging status and rising profile.

Further reinforcing the government’s performance, Olododo noted that the Kwara State Fire Service saved properties worth over ₦728 billion during the quarter under review, citing it as evidence of a robust and efficient emergency response system.

He also reported progress on the 209.77km Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), for which Kwara has received two national accolades: Best in Counterpart Funding and Best in Overall Disbursement, reflecting the administration’s financial prudence and commitment to rural development.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s visionary leadership is at the heart of these achievements,” Olododo said. “These milestones are a reflection of his unwavering commitment to equitable development, infrastructural transformation, and balanced growth between urban and rural areas.”

The briefing also acknowledged ongoing federal interventions on key roads in the state, including the 49km Eyenkorin–Afon–Ojoku–Offa–Odo-Otin Road, 83km Lafiagi–Shonga–Bacita Road, 130km Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu Road, and the Okuta–Gwanara–Bukuro Road, among others.

Olododo concluded by assuring the people of Kwara that the AbdulRazaq-led administration remains focused on delivering a more connected and prosperous state through strategic infrastructure and inclusive growth.
