All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers has broken its silence on the impeachment move initiated by the State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

The Rivers APC made its position known on Thursday, shortly after lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor over alleged misconduct.

The impeachment notice is expected to be served on Governor Fubara and his deputy within the next seven days.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the APC described the move as unacceptable and warned against actions capable of destabilising the state.

β€œOur position as of today is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Nwauju said.

He added that the party would not remain silent while internal crises from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were allowed to spill over into the APC.

β€œIt will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from the strife that occurred within the PDP is allowed to resurface in our great party,” he said.

Nwauju stressed that the APC would do everything possible to ensure that the government of Rivers State β€œis not destabilised.”
