The Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS) of the University of Ilorin is set to hold a Research Training Workshop for its members to unlock innovations, and stimulate economic growth insights through enhancing the commercialization of research outputs.
According to the POGSASS President, Abdullahi Ishaq Toyin, the workshop themed; “Research for Innovation and Commercialization; Our Roles as Researchers” which is slated to be held on Monday and Tuesday 22nd and 23rd of April 2024 would feature a keynote address, panel session, fireside chat, training, and soft skills sessions.
He further stated that the workshop would emphasize a holistic approach to research commercialization, including technology transfer, intellectual property management, industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship support, as well as implement clear policies and procedures for patenting, licensing, and royalty distribution.
“One noticeable deficit is that existing universities have continued to contend with
quality assurance gaps as well as curricula dysfunction about Nigeria’s objective realities. Hence, we intend to bring on board professionals and successful entrepreneurs to unlock the innovations in our students by providing strategic recommendations that can maximize the impact of their research outputs, driving innovation, economic growth, and societal value.”
“In this regard, the workshop has as its objectives the creation of awareness on the need for practical nurturing and harnessing of the untapped Research potential of Nigerian academics and universities; promoting innovation-driven research through collaboration among academia, government, and industry as well as leveraging industry partnerships for funding, expertise, and market insight,” he added.
“The keynote speaker will be the Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Prof. Abiodun Musa Albinu, and Dr. AbdulKareem Oloyede will take charge of the Fireside Chat. The Panelists include; Mr. Temi Kolawole (MD, Innovation Hub), Kamaldeen Kehinde (Managing Partner, MALhub), Kayode Ishola (SA to Kwara Gov. on Digital Innovation), Prof. Nafisat Adedokun Shittu and Prof. M. J. Saka (Director, LAB-TOP).
The Chairman of the occasion will be Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, Member Representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency. Other Invited Guests include Hon. Yusuf Maryam Aladi, KWHA Member representing Ilorin South Constituency; The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde; Kwara State Commissioner for Youths Development, Nafisat Buge Musa; as well as Principal officers of the University.
