The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq, has commended the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kwara State University (KWASU) Chapter, in a statement signed by the MOTE Press Secretary, Mansurat Amuda-kannike for not joining the Nationwide ASUU strike.
Sulyman gave the commendation in Ilorin when the Executive Members of the Union paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He assured the Union of the State Government’s commitment towards creating an enabling environment that would enhance their job as custodians of future leaders.
The Commissioner also assured the ASUU Executive that their dedication, untiring support and cooperation at upholding the Ivory Towers is well appreciated, adding that government will look into their plights with a view to improving the Staff welfare.
Earlier, the ASUU Chairman, KWASU Chapter, Dr. Shehu Salau, reiterated the short falls affecting Staffers of the University and pleaded with the State Government for an improved welfare package.
Dr. Salau also emphasized the need for the State Government to assist the Institution with the restoration of subvention, in order to aid its smooth running.
He specifically pleaded for assistance in the areas of salary review structure, enhanced welfare package and provision of additional infrastructural facilities for proper enhancement and sustainability of academic standard, in order to be able to compete with other academic institutions globally.
The meeting had in attendance all Management Staff of the Ministry, the immediate past and pioneer Chairman of ASUU, KWASU Chapter, Dr. Dauda Adeshola, the Secretary, Mr. Olayiwola Olorisade, Asst Secretary, Mallam Abdullahi Bakare, and Financial Secretary, Dr. AbdulRazaq Mustapha, among others.
