Nelson Akinsowon, a secondary school teacher in Ondo State, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly sleeping with his daughter.
The victim, now 17, said her father began having sex with her in 2014 when she was 10.
The girl recently opened up to family members when she was asked she stopped living with her father.
Sources said the unnamed family members subsequently reported a case of child abuse to police leading to the arrest of the father.
The victim’s mother, according to sources at Fagun Police Division in Ondo was not staying with the girl’s over ill- health.
The victim claimed her father had threatened to kill her if she exposed the affair.
The victim said, “My mother is no longer staying with us because of her health issues and my father married another wife. My father’s wife preaches to me about keeping myself from men until I am married, not knowing that my father has been sleeping with me.
”I could no longer bear it and there was nobody I could tell because he threatened to kill me if I expose his action.
“This made me to run away from the house till I was invited by the police to come to the station.”The suspect, however, denied having sexual intercourse with his daughter and further said, “It was her mother that cooked up the story against me just to tarnish my image in the society because she is no longer staying with me as my wife. I never slept with my daughter.”
Fumilayo Odunlami, Police spokesperson in Ondo State, could not be reached for comments; however, sources at the Fagun Division confirmed Akinsowon’s arrest.
