Three officials of the Lagos State House of Assembly have issued formal apologies to the Department of State Services (DSS) for assaulting its operatives during the recent leadership crisis at the legislative house.
The officials — identified as Ibrahim Abdul-Akeem Olarenwaju, Adetola Fatimoh Oluwatosin, and Adetu Samshudeen Adekunle — expressed regret for their actions in separate letters addressed to the DSS Director General, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi.
The crisis at the Lagos Assembly had prompted the legislative chamber to seek security reinforcement. In a letter dated February 14, 2025, and signed by Acting Clerk A. T. B. Ottun, the Assembly formally requested the DSS to provide security from February 15 until further notice.
However, upon the arrival of DSS operatives, the three Assembly staff reportedly assaulted them, leading to their subsequent arrest based on a CCTV footage.
Following the incident, the officials, in apology letters dated March 28, 2025, expressed remorse for their actions. “I, Ibrahim Abdul-Akeem Olarenwaju, hereby tender my unreserved apology for any act or omission that I might have caused your distinguished office (DSS) and personnel in the course of my duty at the hallowed chamber of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, on the 27th day of February, 2025,” read one of the letters.
The three officials pledged to be of good conduct going forward and assured the DSS that they would refrain from any future acts that could undermine the agency’s personnel.
The controversy surrounding the leadership crisis had also led to widespread media reports alleging that DSS operatives invaded the Assembly.
