Earlier today, the AdunGreen Foundation, a subsidiary of Adun Co. dedicated to fostering sustainable and innovative solutions in agriculture, food security, and environmental conservation, organized a transformative training session for young farmers in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The “3MYF: Train the Trainer,” was held at the Agricultural Development Program Hall of the Kwara State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This initiative is part of AdunGreen Foundation’s ambitious goal to train 3 million young farmers across Nigeria, equipping them with practical skills in grow bag farming, a sustainable agricultural method ideal for urban settings and school gardens. The program is also a key component of the “Let the Earth Breathe” campaign, an initiative focused on promoting environmental conservation and sustainable practices to ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
The training targeted secondary school students, aiming to instill a sense of responsibility towards food production and environmental stewardship. Participants were introduced to the concept of grow bag farming, learning about its history, benefits, and applications. The session emphasized the versatility, sustainability, and space-saving nature of grow bags compared to traditional gardening methods.
Present at the event were key stakeholders, including the Managing Director and members of Kwara ADP, agricultural science teachers from various secondary schools in Kwara, and staff from the Ministry of Agriculture.
In her opening remarks, the Honorable Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Olohuntoyosi Adebayo Thomas, welcomed all attendees, stating, “Everyone is always welcome to the ministry with their ideas as partners. We have brought many partners into the space of industrial agriculture, and I want to commend the organizers of this program.”
She further praised the dedication and passion of AdunGreen Foundation, saying, “Your commitment to transforming agriculture, rebranding it, and attracting young people is commendable. The government supports you wholeheartedly, and we are ready to partner with you in this journey.”
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of regenerative agriculture and ecological practices, urging participants to be ambassadors of sustainable farming. “Understanding soil health, using less chemicals, and leveraging simple but effective agricultural techniques are crucial. This initiative is a step towards achieving that, especially in schools,” she added.
The training session is expected to have a ripple effect as students return to their schools as ambassadors of sustainable farming, sharing their knowledge and inspiring peers. The Commissioner encouraged participants to embrace their roles as leaders and role models, saying, “You are now leaders. Others will watch and learn from you. Shine, take this responsibility seriously, and you never know where it could lead.
The “Let the Earth Breathe” campaign aims to combine environmental conservation with agricultural innovation, encouraging young farmers to adopt sustainable practices that contribute to a healthier ecosystem. As part of the program, participants also received AdunChem Bio-Organic Fertilizer to support their grow bag farming projects, promoting eco-friendly practices.
