The Honorable Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development & Steel Development and Supervising Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulqowiyu Olododo, emphasized the government’s firm stance against illegal mining in the state.

Olododo made this declaration while addressing journalists at the 5th National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development (NCMMRD) Meeting held in Ilorin on Monday.

“The state government is exploring the establishment of cooperatives for external miners to regulate practices and minimize illegal activities. Non-compliance with government policies will result in accountability,” he emphasized.

The collaboration with security agencies, including the police, NSCDC, and EFCC, has significantly reduced illegal mining. “Those interested in mining activities must follow proper channels and undergo the required registration,” added Hon. Qowiyu.

In an interview, he mentioned Kwara State’s efforts to actively engage in mining by revalidating expired licenses to attract potential investors. This initiative aims to foster synergy with the federal government for effective execution of tasks and policy making, considering the state’s proximity to grassroots.

“With Nigeria’s abundant mineral resources, I believe President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda will contribute positively to the economy,” he concluded.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, emphasized the council’s goal of total collaboration with stakeholders to propel the mineral sector forward. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to advance solid minerals underscores our commitment to effective implementation for optimal mineral utilization,” she affirmed.

Alongside the Permanent Secretary, representatives from mining companies, geology lecturers, and prominent personalities from the Kwara State Ministry of Solid Minerals participated in the Council.
