Students, Stakeholders, Poultry experts unite to celebrate nutritional power of Eggs
The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Kwara State Chapter, joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Egg Day 2025 with a series of engaging and impactful activities highlighting the nutritional and economic importance of eggs.
This year’s celebration, themed “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition,” featured a quiz competition for secondary school students, an awareness rally across major streets of Ilorin, and a grand dinner and award night held at Fresh Hotel, Fate, Ilorin.
The celebration kicked off with the inter-school quiz competition, where students showcased their knowledge about poultry farming, nutrition, and agriculture.
Waziri Senior Secondary School, Baboko, Ilorin, emerged as the overall winner, receiving their award during the dinner event.
The following day, members of PAN Kwara took to the streets for a road walk and egg-sharing exercise, distributing eggs to residents in parts of the Ilorin metropolis, including Maraba, Post Office, and Challenge areas, to promote egg consumption among the populace.
The grand dinner brought together key stakeholders in the poultry industry, government officials, academics, and community leaders. The event’s guest speaker, Mrs. Tayo Durojaye, delivered an insightful presentation on the nutritional importance of eggs, emphasizing their role in combating malnutrition and promoting healthy living, especially among children.
In her vote of thanks, the Chairperson of the World Egg Day Planning Committee, Hajia Kikelomo Alatise, appreciated the support of sponsors and partners, notably Vital Feeds from Jos, the Honourable Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, the PAN Kwara Chairman and Executive Members, as well as members of the Board of Trustees, including Elder Kayode, who gave a goodwill message urging continuous collaboration for food security and agricultural advancement.
The evening also featured the presentation of Merit Awards to deserving individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the poultry industry in Kwara State. Some of the recipients included Unilorin Microfinance Bank for being a supportive financial institution, Valentine’s Chicken and Yammfy Farms for their excellence in hatchery services, Aromokeye Pharmacy for outstanding veterinary product sales, Gbemisola Feedmill for quality feedmill services, and Whitewood Veterinary Services for exceptional veterinary service delivery among others.
