Earlier today, the Edun Progressive Minded Forum held its 5th annual Edun Progressive Summit and Empowerment Programme. The event focused on the theme, “Key to Socio-Economic Prosperity of Any Society: Human Capital Development,” showcasing the association’s commitment to advancing education and community development.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Abdul Maleek Shuaib, who officially declared the program open. He also spoke about the previous activities of the Edun Progressive Minded Forum (EPMF), highlighting past empowerment programs and initiatives that have significantly impacted the community.
The program featured the disbursement of scholarships, business support, and the presentation of awards. Thirteen secondary school students benefited from JAMB scholarships. Initially, ten scholarships were provided by the association, while Mr. Saheed Muhd Basheer, the Treasurer of the association, generously donated three additional scholarships, increasing the number of beneficiaries. The students expressed their gratitude, with one of the recipients stating, “This opportunity will help us achieve our educational dreams. We thank the forum for its generosity.”
In addition, 22 petty traders were given cash empowerment to support their businesses. Beneficiaries appreciated the support and appreciated EPMF for the contribution to make their business thrive.
Awards were presented to traditional rulers in recognition of their contributions to community development. The awardees included Mejindadi Ayipo, Ajia Ijesha, Daudu Labala, and Magaji Akani. A posthumous award was also presented to the late Justice Soffiyah Titilayo Daibu Nagode, which was received by the Edun Development Association.
Sheikh Dr. Abdulganiyu Alkali (Abu-Royyan), the keynote speaker, provided insights into the theme from an Islamic perspective. He emphasized that human capital development is essential for societal growth, highlighting education, skill acquisition, and community empowerment as central Islamic tenets for building a prosperous society.
Alfa Sirajudeen Fefe also delivered a brief speech, encouraging the community to remain united and actively participate in initiatives that promote development.
In addition, the program received financial donations from dignitaries to support the smooth running of the association’s activities. Hon. Counselor Hassan Kehinde of the Oke Ogun Ward was represented by Azeez Adanla, who conveyed the counselor’s goodwill and applauded the forum’s efforts in promoting education and community welfare. The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Abdulkadir Olatunji Nagode, was also represented by Comrade Abdullateef Ajadi.
