On September 3rd, 2024, a campaign flag-off ceremony was held at GDSS, Shao, in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State for the APC chairmanship and vice-chairmanship candidates, Hajia Omotayo Abdulwasiu and Alhaji Sulayman Abdulrazaq Adaara.
The event marked the official commencement of campaign activities in Moro Local Government ahead of the Kwara State Local Government chairmanship election, scheduled for the 21st of this month. It also served as an occasion to commission the campaign office and inaugurate the campaign committee responsible for driving the campaign across the local government.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by the Chief Imam of Shao and a Christian elder. Hajia Omotayo Abdulwasiu then delivered a welcoming speech, expressing her gratitude to the attendees. She acknowledged the presence of key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Kwara APC, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, and his Vice Chairman, Alhaji Samari, whom she described as pillars of support for Kwara North. Political elders of Moro Local Government, Alhaji Iliasu Ibrahim and Alhaji Wole Oke; and other dignitaries.
In her speech, Hajia Omotayo expressed deep appreciation to Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the privilege of being the only female candidate among the APC candidates in the state. She reassured the people of her commitment to upholding the good legacy of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
“As the first female chairmanship candidate in Moro and Kwara North in general, I will do everything in my power to meet your expectations. I deeply appreciate the dedication and support from my political stakeholders across Moro. To my fellow contestants, I assure you that we will govern together with your advice and support,” she concluded.
In his remarks, Prince Sunday Fagbemi urged the candidate to be a good ambassador of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, encouraging her to continue the positive path laid by the house members and the past TIC Chairman. This, he noted, would ensure joint development in Moro.
“I am delighted to witness the unity in Moro. They have overcome the period of factionalization. Where there is unity, growth and development are fast. I pray this unity endures, and we avoid a divergence of opinion. Diversity is often caused by hypocritical members who spread misinformation among candidates; they are the root of the evil we must uproot to maintain unity. I urge the councillorship aspirants to focus on their councils’ needs when they emerge, as their work lies in the councils they represent. This joint effort will ensure the overall development of the local government. With that, I officially flag off the campaign, and campaign activities can now begin in full,” he concluded.
Sulayman Olarewaju Taiye, the councillorship candidate of Okuta Ala Ward, spoke on behalf of the other councillorship candidates, expressing gratitude to the attendees for leaving their homes to participate in the political gathering. He urged them to come out in large numbers, as they did today, to vote for the APC in the upcoming election, ensuring the continued efforts of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in developing the state.
