The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a Reconciliation Committee to address disagreements arising from the party’s recently concluded primary elections, with a call on members to embrace peace and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, the Chairman of the committee, Colonel AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal (Rtd.), said the committee was established by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, to reconcile aggrieved members and restore harmony within the party.

Lawal acknowledged that the disagreements following the primaries had become public through statements, rallies, and counter-rallies, stressing that the issues must be resolved before they deepen.

Describing the situation as “a family misunderstanding,” he noted that all parties involved remain committed to the APC, expressing confidence that reconciliation is achievable through dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding.

According to him, the committee has been mandated to engage aggrieved members and stakeholders across the state, identify the root causes of disputes, mediate among the parties, and submit a comprehensive report with recommendations to the party’s State Executive Committee.

He appealed to party members to avoid inflammatory remarks and actions capable of escalating tensions, urging them instead to give the reconciliation process an opportunity to succeed.

The committee chairman disclosed that consultations have already commenced and will include meetings across the three senatorial districts with local government party executives, aspirants, candidates, stakeholders, and various interest groups.

He added that the committee also plans to meet with members of the G15, both individually and collectively, as part of its mediation efforts.

Lawal further commended individuals and groups that have independently initiated peace efforts within the party, noting that the committee’s assignment is intended to complement and strengthen those initiatives rather than replace them.

He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to maintaining its electoral dominance in Kwara State, saying unity among members is essential to the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.

The committee also appealed to the media, particularly social media users, to report developments responsibly and avoid inflammatory publications capable of undermining the reconciliation process.
