In a joint press conference held today at NUJ Hall, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State’s student and youth organizations officially declared their decision to distance themselves from the upcoming protest. The briefing, organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kwara State axis, and other prominent groups, emphasized their commitment to non-violence and constructive engagement over protest actions.
The collective statement highlighted the current economic challenges faced by Nigeria and their impact on students and youths. However, the groups expressed their belief that dialogue and peace are more effective solutions than protests. They urged their members and the wider Kwara community to avoid violent demonstrations, citing the negative aftermath of past protests such as the EndSARS movement in 2020, which led to property damage, economic disruption, and personal losses for many.
The student and youth leaders commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their efforts to address economic issues and support youth development. They stressed that their decision to refrain from participating in the protest reflects a commitment to maintaining peace and avoiding the setbacks experienced from previous protests.
The groups reaffirmed their dedication to working towards national progress through peaceful means and constructive dialogue, advocating for a unified approach to building a better future. They concluded with a call for continued calm and optimism, affirming their stance.
