The Kwara South Youth Development Organisation (KWAYORG) has sounded the alarm over escalating security concerns in the senatorial district, citing widespread kidnappings, killings, and farmer-herder conflicts.
At a press conference held on October 22, 2024, KWAYORG President, Prince Abolarin Alaba Sharafudeen, urged the Kwara State Government, Federal Authorities, and security agencies to take immediate action to address the growing insecurity.
“Our region has witnessed a disturbing increase in criminal activities, with innocent citizens, traditional rulers, and local vigilantes targeted.” Abolarin said.
The once peaceful communities are now plagued by fear, with residents unable to farm or travel without risk of attack or abduction, He added.
The group appealed to Kwara State Government to collaborate with security agencies and local leaders.
Abolarin also urged the Federal Government to prioritize security in Kwara South emphasizing that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, to ensure justice for the victims.
The group acknowledged the need for Security agencies to increase patrols, surveillance, and community-based strategies across Communities in the region.
While urging Stakeholders, including traditional rulers and community leaders, cooperate with law enforcement.
To address the security challenges, KWAYORG announced plans for a Security Summit, aimed at developing a roadmap for improved security and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The summit will bring together stakeholders, including traditional rulers, victims’ families, farmers, and local vigilantes.
