The APC Concerned Kwara Central Elders have made a strong case for the governorship of Kwara State to be zoned to Kwara North in the 2027 elections, urging all stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to honor a long-standing rotational agreement within the party. The elders made their position known at a press conference held today at Adewole Estate, Ilorin.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the elders emphasized the need to promote equity, fairness, and inclusiveness in Kwara politics, noting that the governorship has rotated between Kwara Central and Kwara South since the return to democracy in 1999, while Kwara North remains sidelined.

“Kwara Central would have produced the governor for a cumulative 20 years by 2027,” the group stated, citing past tenures of Mohammed Lawal (1999–2003), Bukola Saraki (2003–2011), and incumbent Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (2019–2027). “Kwara South had its turn with Abdulfatah Ahmed (2011–2019). It is now time for the pendulum to swing to Kwara North.”

The elders referenced a mutual understanding reached in 2019 between leaders of Kwara Central and Kwara North, wherein support was pledged for Kwara North to produce the governor in 2027. They appealed to all sons and daughters of Kwara Central to respect that agreement and throw their weight behind a northern candidate.

The elders also paid tribute to the late Alhaji Musa Mayaki, former Chairman of the APC Concerned Kwara Central Elders, for his pivotal role in political negotiations leading up to the 2019 elections. A minute of silence was observed in his honor.

Drawing on the legacy of the Otoge movement, the group emphasized the power of grassroots mobilization and the importance of political fairness. “The Otoge revolution was not just about change, it was about justice and inclusive governance,” they stated.

The elders praised the Abdulrazaq administration for its developmental strides, citing infrastructure projects like the Unity Road expansion, bridges on Murtala Road, and ongoing works on Taiwo and Emir Roads. They also lauded the state’s reconnection to the Universal Basic Education Program, which has enabled renewed federal support for improving basic education.

In a significant endorsement, the group called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to contest for the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in 2027. “He is a quiet achiever, a champion of the masses. As a Senator, he will facilitate more transformative projects for Kwara Central and the entire state,” they said.

Concluding the address, the elders urged the media not only to report but also to monitor the state’s development trajectory and advocate for equity in governance.
