The Christian community in Kwara State, under the coordination of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs (Christianity) to the Governor, has held a three-day Unity Prayer, which climaxed with a grand finale in Ilorin, to mark the sixth anniversary of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.

The prayer session, tagged “Prayer for the Executive Governor and 2027 in Focus,” was convened by the Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs (Christianity), Reverend Timothy Akangbe, and brought together clergymen, Christian leaders, and government officials to intercede for the peace, progress, and future of Kwara State.

In his sermon, Reverend James Taiwo Aweda, of UMCA Rehoboth City Church, Oyun, Ilorin, emphasized the importance of praying for leaders, describing leadership as a demanding responsibility.

He noted that the easiest way to fail is to lead without divine guidance and stated that citizens must consistently pray for those in authority in order to enjoy good governance and national prosperity.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State Chapter, Bishop Sunday Timothy Adewole, urged Christians to participate actively in the political process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He encouraged them to become card-carrying members of political parties and stated that no leader emerges without God’s approval.
He described Governor AbdulRazaq as a God-sent leader whose developmental efforts deserve collective prayers and support.
Bishop Adewole also called on political appointees to align with the Governor’s vision for the state, stressing that teamwork remains essential to achieving set objectives.
He commended the Governor for upholding equity in governance and ensuring Christians are not denied their rights, praying for divine strength as the administration continues.
In his address, Reverend Timothy Akangbe explained that the spiritual gathering was organized to reflect unity, interfaith cooperation, and collective support for the Governor.
He appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for the confidence reposed in him and reaffirmed the Church’s continued commitment to peaceful governance and development in the state.
Delivering her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr. Olufunke Shittu, encouraged the Christian community not to relent in praying for the state and lauded the Office of the SSA on Religious Affairs (Christianity) for organizing the event in honour of the Governor’s service to the people.
The prayer session featured intercessions led by Reverend Peter Adeleye and Pastor Alfred Ojo, who prayed for continued unity, mercy, peace, and the success of the Governor and his administration.
The event also featured scripture readings by Pastor Ojo Olanrewaju and Alao Peter Oluwagbemi
