Late last month, dated 29th October 2022. We students of Bayero University Kano were 15 in number going back to school after the suspension of a recent prolonged strike, we took off at exactly 10:30 am on Sunday from Ilorin to Kano.
We left not more than an hour, and the bus that conveyed 15 of us overheated not more than 1½ kilometres after Oke-Oyi, we all alighted and the driver refilled the radiator and told us to wait for a few minutes for the engine to cool, further said it was because of the hot and heat weather that makes the car malfunctioning that when the weather is cool, we would be moving normally.
Therefore, some of us insisted on not continuing the voyage but we were persuaded and entered the bus again after the coolness of the engine. We proceeded on our journey after what the driver said but our movement again never reached 45mins, the bus stopped and 7 of us got angry and concluded not to further the voyage, that the best solution is to go back to Ilorin because of the conditions of the bus.
Thereafter, we were 8 that remains to wait for the coolness of the bus to continue the journey. A few minutes later, the driver started the bus and we continue moving slowly because of its conditions yet the condition keeps worsening we all decided to stop at Makwa for the mechanic to check the condition of the bus, and it was already 4:30 pm we reached Mokwa.
While we met with an engineer in Mokwa, he made us know the equipment and materials needed to get the bus repaired, further said the work isn’t what we can be in haste for, and that before anything can be done, we have to wait for the coolness of the engine.
All our efforts and eagerness to get the bus repaired proved futile until we were told we were going to sleep over because it is not going to be ready that day. Albeit, we have no choice, we all agreed and had a sleepless night because as we all know sleeping inside the bus isn’t convenient at all.
Wait for “Episode 2” but that will be till I finished the school examination.
