Earlier Yesterday, dated April 27, 2024, the Alliance for Moro Development held a press conference at the Local Government Area Primary School, Shao.

The press conference which was signed by the executives of the organization solely aimed to agitate for the right of Moro Local Government in political positions in Kwara State.

The coordinator of the Alliance for Moro Development, Hon. Dunmiye Ayobami Yahaya while reading the press said Moro’s local government has been politically marginalized for decades, first within the political geographical zone we’ve found ourselves in, and two in the larger Kwara state. Aside from positions that only indigenes of Moro Local Government Area can occupy, other positions to which we are supposed to be legitimately entitled have remained largely elusive, with its people always schemed out when the dividends of political participation are to be earned. We are therefore forced to ask, “What is the offence of Moro local government?”.

He further said historically, Moro local government was created out of the Ilorin Native Authority in 1976, shares boundary with Oyo and Niger states has abundant human and mineral resources with historical and tourist attractions, and is a major player in agriculture, yet, 48 years later, the local government has witnessed little growth in terms of infrastructural and human capital development.

The press conference partly reads:

As the future of the Alliance for Moro Development, we can’t cross our legs and continue to watch this crass marginalization of our vibrant population, and it is on this premise that the Alliance for Moro Development seeks to:

1. Enhance the political and leadership awareness of every Moro Local Government indigene, this is to advance socio-political development within Moro.

2. Cultivate unity and advancement among Moro Local Government indigenes while advocating for our rights in the best interest of the locality.

3. Establishing rapport and networking with like-minded individuals, groups, and associations in and outside of Moro LGA to achieve our goals.

4. Advocate for and safeguard Moro’s collective interests within the political and leadership landscape in Kwara North especially and Kwara State at large.

5. Strategically positioning Moro Local Government for credible political representation at all levels in the upcoming 2027 election.

6. Advocating and demanding firmly but diplomatically requesting that Moro LGA should be considered in the forthcoming 2027 elections. This, we believe is the only way the decade-long marginalization of the LGA can be addressed.

7. Promote peaceful coexistence in the entire communities in Moro Local Government, and among its neighbours.

We do not have an iota of grouse against anyone, but the political emancipation of Moro local government and its people is of immense importance to us, and we’re ready to walk the path towards attaining political justice for our people. We know it is achievable and we shall strive towards its realization.
