Yesterday, December 24, 2024, the Igbomina Imperial Social Club (IISC) officially took off as a platform dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Igbomina culture in Kwara South.

Speaking at the launch, the Acting Baale of the Club, Comrade Olumide Salawu, emphasized that the IISC is not in competition with existing Igbomina structures such as Omo Ibile Igbomina, Igbomina Youth Assembly, and other recognized groups. Instead, the club seeks to complement their efforts, focusing on harnessing community development and preserving Igbomina’s cultural heritage.

“Our mission is clear: to enrich the cultural heritage of Igbomina land through our dressing, food, language, and more,” Salawu stated. He clarified that the club is not intended to host frivolous social gatherings but aims to foster cultural pride and progress.

Engr. Fadipe Tunde, the former Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Isin Local Government Area, urged members to embody the traditions of Igbomina, particularly in their dressing, language, and respect for elders. He highlighted the club’s non-partisan stance, emphasizing that its purpose is to serve as a unifying network for all Igbomina people, regardless of religious or political affiliations.

The key objectives of the IISC include promoting cultural preservation, fostering community development, encouraging social networking, and facilitating cultural exchange programs to strengthen mutual understanding and respect with other ethnic groups.

Membership in the IISC is said to be open to all Igbomina-speaking individuals and organizations who share its vision and values, without age restriction.
