The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has officially endorsed the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during a well-attended political gathering held at the Omu Aran City Hall in Omu Aran, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters converged to express their confidence in Danladi’s leadership capacity.
The event commenced with an opening prayer led by Dr. Popoola, who sought divine guidance for Nigeria’s leadership, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and other political leaders. He also prayed for the success of Danladi’s governorship ambition.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Kanu praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged Nigerians to support his re-election bid for a second term. He emphasized the importance of continuity in governance both at the federal and state levels.
Speaking on zoning and equity, Hon. Kanu highlighted the need for fairness among the three senatorial districts in Kwara State.
Kwara South, Kwara Central, and Kwara North. He noted that Kwara South had governed for eight years, while Kwara Central is currently completing its own tenure. According to him, it is only just for Kwara North to produce the next governor.
He stated that among all potential aspirants from the North, Salihu Yakubu Danladi stands out due to his experience, loyalty, and contributions as a legislator, adding that he is well-positioned to sustain the developmental strides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The APC Chairman in Irepodun Local Government, Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Kawu, in his opening remarks, called on party members and residents to rally behind Danladi’s ambition and support President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

A motion endorsing both President Tinubu for re-election and Danladi for governor was moved by the Minority Leader of the Irepodun Legislative Council. The motion received unanimous support from attendees and was ratified by the Speaker of the Irepodun Legislative Council.
Speaking during an interview at the event, the Director of Operations(DO) in Irepodun Local Government, Tayo Awodiji, described Danladi as a strong and credible candidate.
“You see, Yakubu Danladi has been part and parcel of this administration, and he shares the same vision as the current government. Considering what the governor has set out to achieve, he is well-positioned to be a worthy successor who can continue and accomplish that vision,” he said.
Awodiji further stressed that Danladi’s experience in governance makes him a natural choice.
“He has been very cooperative and actively involved in governance. Taking over leadership will not be strange to him. I trust his capacity to lead effectively and deliver as expected,” he added.
On the issue of equity, he reiterated the need to give Kwara North the opportunity to produce the next governor.
“If you look at the history of governorship in Kwara State since 1999, Kwara North has never produced a governor.
Kwara South had it for about eight years, while Kwara Central has held it for over 20 years. For fairness, equity, and justice, it is only right to consider Kwara North this time,” Awodiji noted.
He also commended the ongoing renewal projects in the state, describing them as impactful and transformative.
“The renewal projects are commendable. Interestingly, Yakubu Danladi is also an ambassador of this initiative. It is about reorienting the system, modernizing infrastructure, and making governance more effective,” he said.
